Fire Erupts at Home of Recent Murder-Suicide in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 3 (KNN) — A fire broke out at a residence in the 2900 block of Hosking Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, prompting a response from the Bakersfield and Kern County Fire Departments.

A neighbor at the scene told Key News Network this house was where an apparent murder-suicide occurred on Dec. 28, just after 5:30 p.m.

Sgt. Eric Celedon, Public Information Officer with the Bakersfield Police Department, confirmed to KNN that a shooting incident did occur at the residence that left two people dead.

According to Celedon, officers arrived at the residence at approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, regarding an ambulance request.

They located two deceased subjects inside the residence – one with gunshot wounds and the other from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Bakersfield PD’s preliminary investigation led the department to believe this incident to be a murder-suicide, said Celedon.

Regarding the fire, the cause is still under investigation, and an arson investigator was called to the scene.
