Firefighters Battle Major Emergency Structure Blaze in Westlake

WESTLAKE, LOS ANGELES, July 10 (KNN) — Firefighters battled a major emergency structure fire overnight in the Westlake neighborhood within Central Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to a commercial structure fire at 2:46 a.m. Monday on the 600 block of South Park View Street. Arriving firefighters found a two-story, residential over commercial building with fire on the second floor, according to the LAFD.

Firefighters initially fought the blaze in offensive mode as crews faced multiple entry challenges on the first floor. Additional resources were called to respond to battle the greater alarm fire.

Shortly after 3 a.m., firefighters transitioned to defensive operations as heavy fire burned through the roof. Firefighters focused on defending the exposed adjacent four-story apartment building from flames. The LAFD reported evacuation of the building just before 4 a.m.

Additional task forces were requested making this incident a major emergency structure fire.

The LAFD reported over 90 firefighters achieved knockdown in one hour and 35 minutes. No injuries were reported. The residents evacuated from the four-story apartment building are able to rehouse, according to the LAFD.

LAFD Arson investigators were on scene investigating the cause of the major emergency fire.
