Crews were dispatched shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the Cahuenga Peak located in the Santa Monica mountains, just west of the Hollywood sign. There are no roads on the peak and the terrain is rugged.

Ground crews and air response were at the location of the fire, initially estimated at less than a quarter-acre of burning brush.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the LAFD reported containment of the brush fire that had spread to approximately one acre.

There was no threat or damage to structures. No injuries were reported.

The LAFD said ground crews will reman at the scene Wednesday night to complete extinguishment at the perimeter of the burn area to assure final extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under active investigation.

“Though a pair of male hikers were seen on trails near the fire, their specific actions and intent have yet to be determined. They are at this time best described as “persons of interest”, rather than suspects,” according to LAFD Spokesperson Brian Humphrey.
