Hemet Fire Day 4: 23,919 Acres, 5% Contained

Hemet, Riverside County, CA: On Sept. 8, day four of the Fairview fire in Hemet, the blaze increased in size and continued to burn up Bautista Canyon Road.

Key News Network footage from the scene shows extreme fire behavior burning up Bautista Canyon and burning into the Cal Fire/ California Department of Corrections Bautista Conservation camp where inmate firefighters are normally housed but were not at the facility when the fire impacted the location.

Cal Fire was able to prevent any loss of structures within the camp.

At 8:00 a.m. Riverside County Fire reported the fire was at 18,657 acres with 5% containment, but by the evening update at 6:30 p.m., the fire had increased to 23,919 acres and remains 5% contained. All evacuation orders and warnings will remain in place.

According to RCF, there are currently 1181 firefighters assigned to the incident with multiple cooperating agencies working to extinguish flames; Cal Fire/Riverside, City of Corona FD, City of Hemet FD, Morongo Fire Department, Murrieta Fire Protection District, Orange County Fire Authority Copter, Riverside City FD, Riverside County Emergency Management Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and USFS – San Bernardino.
