High Surf Breaches Sand Berms, Threatens Beachfront Homes

LONG BEACH, CA, Aug. 21 (KNN) — City Public Works crews worked feverishly to build up sand berms protecting beachfront homes along the Long Beach peninsula from high surf created by the arrival of Tropical Storm Hilary.

Large powerful waves pounded the beach Sunday afternoon along Ocean Boulevard near 62nd Place threatening the berms.

Construction backhoes and large dump trucks repaired the spots where waves were breaching the berm and coming into an area close to homes.

Higher surf was expected later Sunday and rain was due to continue overnight into Monday morning as last remnants of the tropical storm move out of the Southland.
