Hijacked Metro Bus Ends Reckless Ride in Crash Into The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, Mar. 21 (KNN) — A metro bus was hijacked late Wednesday night around 11:40 p.m. and traveled recklessly on Downtown Los Angeles streets involving multiple vehicles in collisions before slamming into The Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Preliminary information from the Los Angeles Police Department indicates a man entered a Metro bus at 7th and Spring Street, and at Jefferson and Grand, he pointed a gun at the bus driver. The bus then traveled to Olympic and Figueroa where the suspect and bus driver struggled for control of the bus.

The bus proceeded to travel recklessly involving multiple vehicles in collisions until the bus crashed head-on into The Ritz Carlton Hotel in the 900 block of West Olympic Boulevard near Georgia Street.

The bus driver and another victim were reported injured. Both were transported in stable condition to a local hospital.

It is currently unclear if there were any passengers on the bus at any time during this incident.

The male suspect initially fled the scene but was later located by LAPD Central Division officers. He has been booked, but charges are pending at this time.

The weapon used by the suspect was determined to be an airsoft gun, according to the LAPD.

There is no further information at this time.
