DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, May 31 (KNN) — A man walking on the 101 Freeway in the Downtown Los Angeles area late Thursday night, was fatally struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on the southbound 101 Freeway, south of Main Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At that approximate time, a pedestrian was walking in lanes at that location when an unknown make and model vehicle, driven by an unknown driver, traveling at an unknown speed struck the pedestrian resulting in fatal injuries to the pedestrian, reported the CHP in a news release. After the collision, the driver continued driving and fled the scene.
The CHP said the cause of the collision and sequence of events continue to be investigated by the CHP Central Los Angeles Area Office. “Alcohol or drug use by the pedestrian is still under investigation.”
The identity of the pedestrian is unknown at this time pending further investigation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The CHP continues to investigate the identity of the driver.
