Home Intruder Fatally Shot by Bakersfield Police Department Officer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Oct. 2 (KNN) — An intruder unwilling to exit a residence was fatally shot during an altercation with the Bakersfield Police Department.

Around 12 a.m. Wednesday, a resident of the 200 block of Blomquist Drive contacted the Bakersfield PD after hearing unknown voices inside her home. When officers arrived, they contacted a man still inside the residence who was unknown to the homeowner, according to the Bakersfield PD’s press release regarding the incident.

Officers communicated with the man, attempting to gain his voluntary compliance. The man refused to comply with officers’ instructions and became assaultive toward officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting, according to the press release. 

Officers entered the home and took the man into custody, assisted by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office canine.

According to Bakersfield PD, the suspect was transported to Kern Medical, where he was pronounced deceased. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the suspect at a later time.

Investigators with the California Department of Justice responded and assumed the investigation along with the Bakersfield Police Department.
