The Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a victim of an assault at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Normandie Avenue.

Sometime later, first arriving LAPD officers requested additional patrol units for a crime scene when it became clear the incident was a homicide after the victim was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound.

A distraught woman at the scene could be heard saying, “they killed him!” in Spanish.

The crime scene was expanded to close off Normandie between 6th Street and Wilshire Boulevard.

The deceased victim is described by the LAPD as a 23-year-old Hispanic male. His name has not yet been released by the Los Angeles County coroner.

It is unknown at this time if the shooting is gang related, according to LAPD Officer Lee.
