Hours-Long Standoff With Armed Santa Ana Suspect Ends

SANTA ANA, CA, Aug. 30 (KNN) — A suspect surrendered to Santa Ana SWAT officers and was taken into custody after an 11-hour standoff with authorities.

The suspect was armed with a handgun, but later dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. Family members arrived at the scene, and were yelling at the suspect to surrender to officers.

The incident unfolded just after 4 p.m. Tuesday when a man was seen carrying a gun in front of a store in a strip mall on the 1900 block of 17th street in Santa Ana.

An evacuation of the area stores ensued as the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the location.

Santa Ana PD along with a crisis team and SWAT were present at the scene to help resolve the standoff.

The standoff finally came to an end shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
