Hydrant Gushes Water Sheared by Hit-and-Run Driver

Westlake, Los Angeles, CA: A hydrant sheared by a hit-and-run driver sent up a geyser of water gushing into the intersection of Westlake Avenue and Maryland Street. The incident occurred on Monday, Feb. 28, around 12:58 a.m. in the neighborhood of Westlake located in the city of Los Angeles.

The vehicle fled in an unknown direction after hitting the hydrant and a street sign. Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived at the scene and were able to shut down the hydrant at approximately 1:30 a.m.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was initially requested due to firefighters having issues shutting down the hydrant. DWP was canceled after 1:30 a.m.

Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic division will handle the investigation. There is no suspect description at this time.
