Investigation Underway Into Shooting Death of Man Found Near City Hall

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, July 13 (KNN) — A man was found with a gunshot wound to the head Thursday morning across the street and to the west of City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles.

The shooting was reported at West 1st Street and South Spring Street shortly after 3 a.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene, according to Officer Drake Madison with the LAPD’s Media Relations Division.

The 30-year-old male victim was on the sidewalk when the suspect approached, produced a handgun and shot the victim, according to Madison. The suspect fled the location in a vehicle.

The victim was homeless and it is unknown if the incident is gang related.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division officers were at the scene and are handling the investigation.
