IRWINDALE, Calif., July 10 (KNN) — A high speed pursuit which started in El Monte resulted in the death of a bicyclist on the 1500 block of Arrow Highway in the city of Irwindale.
El Monte Police Department officers were involved in a pursuit Tuesday evening of a vehicle reportedly stolen from a dealership in the city of El Monte. The suspect vehicle appeared to be a white Range Rover.
Irwindale PD confirmed off camera to KNN that El Monte PD was in pursuit of the suspect vehicle prior to the collision. Officers also stated off camera that El Monte PD had canceled their pursuit prior to the suspect colliding with the cyclist.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Arrow Highway when it struck the bicyclist on the east side of the river crossing. The cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The gender and age of the victim is unknown at this time.
Irwindale PD was observed using 3D scanning technology to capture the crime scene. The suspect vehicle was seen abandoned approximately 1/2 mile east of the impact location.
The suspect had exited the vehicle, then fled on foot. He was arrested shortly after, reported ABC 7 News.
The road was closed in both directions to traffic while officers continued their investigation.
