Koreatown Shooting Leaves Man Wounded, Suspect Flees in U-Haul Box Truck

KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES, Mar. 19 (KNN) — A suspect fled in a U-Haul box truck after shooting a man walking along a street in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles Monday night.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. in the 800 block of South Mariposa Avenue. Los Angeles Police Department officers with Olympic Division arrived at the location for reports of a shooting with a victim down, and found a male gunshot victim in his 50s. He advised officers that the suspect fled in a U-Haul box truck.

Officer Cuellar with LAPD’s Media Relations Division said the victim was walking when a man exited a U-Haul truck and shot the victim.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the man in stable condition to a local hospital. He suffered a non-life-threatening injury, according to Cuellar.

LAPD officers searched for the vehicle in the area and located a U-Haul box truck on Normandie Avenue. The male driver was taken into custody at the location and was transported by officers to the police station.

The man was released after detectives determined he was not the suspect involved in the shooting, Cuellar told Key News Network.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, according to Cuellar. There is no further information.
