Officers were on patrol in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar Avenue when they were flagged down at 1:50 a.m. by security for a nightclub regarding an altercation on the street, according to Officer Drake Madison with LAPD’s Media Relations Division.

Madison reported that as the officers drove toward the area of the altercation to investigate, a suspect driving a white sedan who is described as a heavy-set Caucasian male in his 30’s, produced a handgun and began firing, at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle with the officers in pursuit. The pursuit lasted only a short distance before the officers lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle, according to the LAPD.

It was unknown at that point, if the suspect or suspect’s vehicle was struck by gunfire. No officers or bystanders were reported injured, according to the LAPD.

The suspect’s vehicle was later located abandoned in the McDonald’s parking lot at the northwest corner of Alvarado and Temple Streets, according to information gathered at the scene by KNN from the LAPD.

Officers and responding LAPD detectives cordoned off the area during the investigation.
