The break occurred around 2:34 p.m. on the 3300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Canton Drive.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded, confirmed the large water main rupture and requested the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for the broken main along with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and Los Angeles Police Department officers to assist with road closures.

Traffic was closed both north and southbound in the area. Crews were at the location working to shut off the water flow. Debris and large cracks in the road were observed in the gushing water and caught on Key News Network video at the scene.

The duration of the complete road closure is not known. Traffic delays are anticipated as crews work to repair one of the few heavily traveled roads through the canyons.
