STEVENSON RANCH, CA, Aug. 23 (KNN) — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy detailed to the Special Enforcement Bureau has been charged with one felony count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one misdemeanor count of giving false information to a peace officer and three misdemeanor counts of delaying and/or obstructing an investigation in connection with attempts to cover up the DUI crash of another SEB deputy in Stevenson Ranch last year.

On August 22, 2022, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station units responded to a deputy-involved crash in Stevenson Ranch after a 911 caller found a marked LASD SEB SUV abandoned in the bushes on the side of a road.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., arriving deputies confirmed the sheriff’s department SUV had crashed on Pico Canyon Road west of Stevenson Ranch Parkway but could not locate any deputies.

A containment was launched and the area was locked down as units combed a wooded area in search of their missing deputy.

California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Station units also responded to the scene.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, Deputy Gregory Davis responded to the location and is suspected of pulling Deputy Carlos Lopez’s limp body out of the crashed SUV and placing him in the vehicle of Lopez’s wife. The wife drove Lopez home.

The district attorney’s office believes Davis then tried to move the LASD vehicle as an off-duty LAPD officer called 911 when he saw the crash.

The deputy was located at a nearby home about a mile from the crash scene and was rushed to a nearby trauma center.

Lopez was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was relieved of duty.

Davis is expected to surrender to authorities.
