Major Flooding and Debris Impacts Homes; Residents Shelter in Place

Studio City, Los Angeles, CA: A large amount of water and debris flowed down from the Hollywood Hills into Studio City overnight during a relentless winter rainstorm causing mud to cover vehicles and backyards as residents sheltered in place.

The incident was initially reported on the 3700 block of North Fredonia Drive at approximately 11:36 p.m. Jan. 9, in the Studio City neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and located multiple debris flows coming from Mulholland Drive down into the canyon roads below.

A home on the 10800 block Wrightwood Lane was impacted by mud flowing through the backyard and garage along with water inside the home.

LAFD instructed residents on Wrightwood Lane to shelter in place as they worked to clear storm drains and requested heavy equipment to the location to help with the mud and debris.

Key News Network spoke with two residents whose homes were directly in the path of the gushing muddy water and debris which was also observed in the streets.

LAFD reported around 1:39 a.m. that there were a total of 17 people sheltering in place in a total of seven homes. Two of the homes were impacted by the flowing mud and debris.

LAFD also stated there were no reported injuries and drivers should avoid Wrightwood Lane to Fredonia down to Lankershim/Cahuenga as this will be an extended duration operation for street services to clear the roads.
