Man Armed With Knife Fatally Shot by Police

PICO-UNION, LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 (KNN) – A knife wielding man causing a disturbance was fatally shot by police officers Wednesday evening in the Pico-Union neighborhood within Central Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division patrol units responded to multiple reports shortly after 8 p.m. of a man armed with a knife causing a disturbance and also calls of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1200 block of South New Hampshire Avenue, according to the LAPD.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect in a parking lot and an officer-involved shooting occurred, stated Sgt. Hector Guzman with LAPD’s Media Relations Division at the location.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and officers requested Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics while also providing first aid to the suspect, said Guzman. LAFD paramedics transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Guzman said the suspect was an adult male Hispanic. Investigators did locate a large knife at the scene which they recovered as evidence.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, reported Guzman.

The thorough investigation is ongoing.
