Medical Emergency Aboard Cruise Ship Leaves Retired Fire Captain Hospitalized

SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES, June 8 (KNN) — The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical emergency involving a retired fire department captain aboard a cruise ship in the San Pedro Port area Friday night.

Fire department personnel with LAFD Fire Station 110, located in the 2900 block of South Miner Street, arrived at the “Navigator of the Seas” cruise ship around 9: 30 p.m. where they placed the captain in a litter basket and lowered him into a rescue boat below.

The patient was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he is listed in serious, critical condition, according to Brian Humphrey, spokesperson for the LAFD.

Humphrey said the retired captain was exhibiting suspected stroke-like symptoms while on the cruise ship. The fire department the captain retired from is still unclear, however, he is initially reported to be approximately 52 years old.

There is no further information at this time.
