Multi-Vehicle Crash With Fatality Closes Southbound 605 in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, CA, July 2 (KNN) — One person was killed Sunday night in a traffic collision that stemmed from a prior crash on the southbound 605 Freeway.

Los Angeles County firefighters and California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs officers received multiple reports for a multi-vehicle collision around 8:15 p.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway at Carson Street in Lakewood.

Upon arrival, CHP and firefighters found approximately seven vehicles involved in the collision with at least four total patients, two of whom suffered minor injuries; one other sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The fourth patient was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All southbound lanes of the 605 Freeway were diverted off at Carson Street at the time of the incident until further notice.

The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and under investigation.
