BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Feb. 10 (KNN) — Three people were found trapped and injured, one fatally, inside a sedan that was involved in a collision with another vehicle late Friday night.
The Bakersfield Police Department responded to reports of a traffic collision shortly after 11 p.m. in the area of the 1900 block of Planz Road in the city of Bakersfield.
When officers arrived on scene, they located three people pinned inside a white sedan with moderate to major injuries, according to initial information at the scene. All three female patients were extricated from the wrecked vehicle.
Bakersfield PD stated in a press release that the driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene and the two female passengers were transported to a local hospital. One has since been released from the hospital, while the other female remains in critical condition.
According to the BPD, a Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a white Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the SUV has been identified as Arturo Munoz, 25, of Bakersfield, and has been placed under arrest for DUI. He has also had three prior DUI convictions in the last six years, the BPD stated in the press release.
Munoz will be booked into the Kern County Jail for homicide, DUI causing great bodily injury and DUI with three prior convictions, stated the BPD.
The BPD had the scene cordoned following the collision. East and westbound traffic was shut down at that time.
