Los Angeles, CA: Grammy award winning artist, Grease star Olivia Newton-John has died at the age of 73. Her death was announced by her husband, John Easterling, on the star’s social media accounts early Monday afternoon, Aug. 8. Newton-John had been battling cancer on and off for years. She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.
The moment news broke of Newton-John’s death, fans began laying flowers on her Walk of Fame star on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. A dapper gentleman wearing white gloves, a red tailcoat and top hat was visibly moved by the star’s death as he gently laid the first flowers of what was yet to become a growing memorial tribute at the location.
Newton-John was adored by fans around the world and an inspiration to many as she shared her battle with cancer with unwavering positivity and hope.
“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,”Easterly posted on social media.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation.
