Paintball Guns Loaded With Marbles Used in Robbery Attempt of Security Guard

North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA: A security guard was shot at Monday night in a robbery attempt by suspects with paintball guns apparently loaded with marbles.

The Los Angeles Police Department North Hollywood Division officers responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of Sherman Way and Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood at 10:30 p.m., May 15.

Arriving officers found a security officer possibly shot in the neck and requested medical resources. The Los Angeles Fire Department had already been dispatched at time of call and was standing by for LAPD clearance to enter the scene.

The victim was apparently targeted in an attempted robbery with suspects wielding paintball guns loaded with what appeared to be marbles.

The attempted robbery occurred near the Starbucks on the southwest corner of the intersection where the victim was approached and shot by the suspects after they asked him for money. The security officer was reportedly struck in the neck and possibly in body armor.

The victim then drove to the Chevron gas station where he called for help. LAFD assessed the victim at scene, but he was subsequently released.

The security guard’s vehicle sustained visible damage from the shooting. An LAPD officer was observed placing colorful, round objects into a transparent bag as he collected evidence from inside the victim’s vehicle.

LAPD North Hollywood Station is handling the investigation and reviewing dash cam and security camera footage in the area.
