Anaheim, Orange County, CA: A male passenger was seriously injured after a female driver allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, sending their white sedan into the back of a parked big rig early Wednesday morning.
Authorities received calls regarding the crash shortly before 1:45 a.m., Feb. 1, where a man was reported to be unconscious in a sedan versus semi crash on the CA-91 Freeway eastbound at Harbor Boulevard in the city of Anaheim.
Authorities arrived and located the white sedan in the middle of the freeway with major damage.
One male party was trapped in the mangled wreckage and was rescued by firefighters utilizing the Jaws of Life.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extricate the victim from the sedan. The patient was loaded onto a stretcher and rushed to a nearby trauma center with major facial injuries.
The female driver was seen being assessed by Anaheim Fire & Rescue paramedics. However, she declined transport to a hospital.
Per the California Highway Patrol log, the driver fell asleep while driving.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
All eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down by CHP Westminster officers.
