The man surrendered to armed sheriff’s deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau shortly after 5 a.m. Monday.

Sheriff Luna stated at a 10:30 a.m. press conference that the suspect had barricaded in the home for hours before he surrendered and was taken into custody.

A vehicle matching the description of an older Toyota Corolla was located at the scene. Numerous firearms were recovered at the location by investigators during the early morning arrest, according to Luna.

Luna identified the suspect as 29-year-old Kevin Salazar of Palmdale. At this time, the motive for the shooting is unknown, however, Luna said the investigation is ongoing and the department intends to find out.

Luna credits the community for the tips that led to the arrest of Salazar.

Deputy Clinkunbroomer was in his marked patrol vehicle just leaving the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at East Avenue Q and Sierra Highway when he was fatally shot around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Sheriff Luna said in a press conference late Saturday night that a good Samaritan found the deputy and immediately called Palmdale station personnel.

The deputy was then transported by LASD personnel to Antelope Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased after attempts were made to save his life.
