PHOENIX, Ariz., Feb. 13 (KNN) — Phoenix Police Department officers were involved in a shooting near the intersection of 29th Avenue and Loma Lane Wednesday afternoon.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Rob Scherer said at a press briefing about the incident that officers assigned to the Cactus Park precinct were performing proactive enforcement when they attempted to stop a white SUV occupied by two men near 29th Avenue and Loma Lane.
Officers approached the driver on foot and ordered him to stop the vehicle. The driver then proceeded to accelerate toward the officers, nearly striking them.
Two officers discharged their service weapons at the vehicle, which began fleeing westbound on Northern Avenue.
Officers pursued the vehicle to the area of 59th Avenue and Northern, where the passenger of the SUV exited, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The driver continued driving westbound toward 61st Avenue before turning southbound and crashing.
The driver of the vehicle exited and attempted to flee on foot. A perimeter was established around the area, and the suspect was located shortly thereafter.
The driver was taken into custody before being transported to a local area hospital for a gunshot wound.
The passenger who exited the vehicle was also taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound.
Both gunshot wounds were described as being non-life-threatening.
