The pro-Palestinian activists began setting up tents on the sidewalks around City Hall shortly before 9:30 p.m. Approximately 20 tents were erected between City Hall and LAPD Headquarters. Around 50 protesters were seen gathering on the sidewalk on the south side of City Hall. One tent was observed covered with handwriting that read “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free”.

The LAPD stated on X that they were monitoring the gathering and that the event is a non-permitted demonstration. The main gathering was located at the intersection of 1st and Spring streets.

At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, LAPD moved in to remove the protesters and their tents. LAPD does not allow tents at City Hall due to the events in 2011 relating to Occupy L.A. and the tents that were used in that event.

Per LAPD PIO off camera, “The issue here are the tents, not the people.”

Most of the tents were not occupied and were easily removed by LAPD personnel. No injuries were reported at this time.

By 1:00 a.m., the LAPD were cleaning up debris and what remained of the encampments and tents left on the sidewalk by the protesters. The crowd was mostly dispersed by 1:40 a.m. There were no arrests made at the time of this report from the scene.
