Fiery Highway Traffic Collision Involves Semi and Sedan

Somis, Ventura County, CA: A fiery traffic collision involving a semi and sedan on SR-118 Tuesday evening left one driver airlifted to a local hospital, and the other transported by ground.

Ventura County Fire Department crews responded to a collision involving a semi and a vehicle around 5:30 p.m., May 9, on SR-118 just east of Walnut Avenue in the Somis area of Ventura County.

Both vehicles were involved in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, according to Fire Captain Stan Ziegler with VCFD. It was determined there was one patient trapped at the scene. Additional crews went to work immediately to extricate the patient. The other driver was attended to for their medical needs.

One driver was airlifted to the hospital and the other driver was transported by ground to a local hospital, according to Ziegler.

Fire crews completely extinguished the flames in approximately 10 minutes, Ziegler said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
