Shooting in Bakersfield Leaves 1 Man Fatally Wounded in Street

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 28 (KNN) — A man was fatally wounded in a shooting and located in a street in the city of Bakersfield early Sunday morning.

Bakersfield police officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2:25 a.m. with a male gunshot victim down in the roadway in the 10 block of Monterey Street.

Arriving firefighters and paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, according to Sgt. Tipton in a press release of the incident.

The location of the shooting was not revealed in the press release. It is unclear if the shooting occurred at a nearby Irish pub according to initial information at the scene, or in the street.

The cause of the shooting is not known at this time and there is currently no suspect information for public release, according to the BPD.

Traffic in the area of the intersection of Monterey Street and Union Avenue was impacted for at least three hours, as investigators worked to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office released on Monday, Jan. 29, the identity of the victim as Bakersfield resident Joseph Anthony Reynaga, 27, who was pronounced deceased at Kern Medical. A postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause and manner of death.
