HESPERIA, Calif., Oct. 15 (KNN) — A shooting involving law enforcement Monday night occurred at the end of a freeway chase for a wanted suspect of a crime.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department initiated a pursuit of a vehicle at approximately 8:45 p.m. after a call of an armed robbery at a residence in Hesperia, according to Mara Rodriguez, Public Information Officer with the Public Affairs Division, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The pursuit made its way onto the southbound I-15, where the California Highway Patrol then became involved in the incident. The driver led law enforcement on a pursuit throughout the Inland Empire.
The pursuit began to make its way back up the northbound I-15. While continuing north on the I-15, officers completed a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle at Highway 138 in the Cajon Pass.
The PIT was successful. However, the driver began to flee again. After a short pursuit, officers were able to make another slow-speed PIT maneuver and block the vehicle.
While attempting to block the suspect vehicle, the suspect began to drive dangerously aggressively, causing officers to draw their weapons and use lethal force.
An officer-involved shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway near Highway 138 in the Cajon Pass. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and medical aid was rendered.
No deputies were injured, and the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening, said Rodriguez in an email to KNN.
Rodriguez added that the suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Robert Brown. He will be booked into custody soon.
Further information will be released when available.
