UNIVERSITY PARK, LOS ANGELES, June 18 (KNN) — One person was fatally stabbed Monday evening on USC’s Greek Row by a 19-year-old suspect who was arrested at the scene by the Los Angeles Police Department.
LAPD officers responded to the 700 block of West 28th Street in the University Park neighborhood around 8:15 p.m. for an assault with a knife investigation.
“The male victim was breaking into vehicles at the location when the suspect confronted and stabbed the victim,” stated the LAPD on Tuesday.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The area was cordoned off with crime scene tape and it appeared the fatal stabbing occurred outside one of the fraternity houses.
“The suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident,” said the LAPD.
He has been identified as 19-year-old Ivan Gallegos, a resident of Los Angeles, who was booked for murder and held on $2 million dollar bail, reported the LAPD.
The victim was identified as a homeless man in his 30s, according to a spokesperson for the LAPD who also told KNN that the department has not determined at this time if the suspect is a USC student.
South Bureau Homicide is handling the investigation.
