Strip Mall Blaze Damages Multiple Businesses in Fontana

FONTANA, Calif., Jan. 10 (KNN) — Multiple businesses were damaged in a strip mall fire early Wednesday morning in the city of Fontana.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department was dispatched to a reported commercial fire around 7:21 a.m. in the 9800 block of Sierra Avenue. The first arriving engines reported heavy smoke through the roof at the location.

Firefighters quickly attacked the flames to try and save multiple businesses in the strip mall. Despite their best efforts, at least five businesses in the strip mall were damaged by fire and/or smoke.

A second alarm was requested to help fight the fire. It took approximately 25 minutes for firefighters to knock down the flames and keep it from spreading into surrounding businesses.

While firefighters were battling the fire, the owner of Koya Sushi was caught on video arriving at the scene to find his business on fire.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time, however, investigators were on the scene to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

No injuries were reported to firefighters or bystanders at this time. Utilities were called to shut off the power and gas to the affected businesses.

The fire involved Children’s Dental, Koya Sushi, H&R Block, Thai BBq and Fontana PHO Restaurant.
