Suspect Jumps From Moving Stolen CHP Vehicle During Pursuit, Sustains Fatal Injuries

Lancaster, Los Angeles County, CA: A man suspected of stealing a California Highway Patrol vehicle Tuesday afternoon led CHP officers on a chase that ended in the Antelope Valley area of Los Angeles County and the suspect fatally injured at the scene.

At approximately 12:16 p.m., Mar. 28, CHP officers engaged in a pursuit of one of their own CHP cruisers.

An unidentified man stole the CHP Dodge Charger and led officers on a pursuit before jumping out of the moving vehicle at speeds of approximately 45 to 50 mph on a stretch of open road.

The CHP Dodge Charger continued moving unoccupied for a short distance when it crashed into an electrical pole near the intersection of Avenue D and 87th Street West in the city of Lancaster within the Antelope Valley.

CHP officers performed CPR on the suspect, then transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Exactly how the vehicle was stolen remains currently unclear as CHP investigates the incident.
