SUV Plows into Donut Shop; Child and Mother Injured

Canyon Country, Santa Clarita, CA: A mother and child were injured after an SUV plowed into a busy donut shop in the Canyon Country neighborhood within the city of Santa Clarita.

The crash occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the Yum Yum Donuts shop on the 16500 block of Soledad Canyon Road.

An elderly driver behind the wheel of a newer model Chevrolet Equinox told Key News Network she was unsure of what happened but believed she mistook the accelerator for the brake.

A mother and child inside the shop at the time were injured, according to firefighters on scene.

Copter 15 was requested to land at nearby Canyon Country Park, but was eventually canceled in favor of transporting the two patients via ground ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station traffic office.
