Tesla Crashes Off Freeway, Down Embankment Trapping Driver

RIVERSIDE, CA, Sept. 19 (KNN) — A single-vehicle crash off a freeway and down an embankment early Tuesday morning left the driver trapped inside a Tesla.

Firefighters and California Highway Patrol were dispatched shortly before 4 a.m. to a crash involving a Tesla Model 3 on westbound SR 91 in Riverside.

The driver of the Tesla lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason while traveling westbound on the 91 Freeway just past Pierce Street.

The Tesla struck the guard rail sending it down the embankment and causing serious damage to the vehicle.

The driver of the Tesla was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by firefighters.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to free the driver who was transported in unknown condition to a local area hospital.

The slow lane was closed for an unknown duration while Caltrans repaired about 40 feet of guardrail that was damaged from the impact of the Tesla.

Delays in traffic were possible as motorists make their way to work.
