The ‘Griswold House’ Christmas Display in La Mirada is Back

La Mirada, Los Angeles County, CA: A big fan of the movie “Christmas Vacation” devotes his time and energy decorating the entire front of his residence every Christmas with as many lights as the Griswold’s home in the movie, until the city decided to try and put an end to it.

Complete with mannequins, vintage vehicles and a caricature of Chevy Chase’s face featured in a window, the “Griswold House” Christmas display at a private home in the city of La Mirada was a popular topic of discussion last Christmas. City officials pushed to have it taken down after a five year ongoing tradition.

The community rallied behind the homeowner as he fought and won to keep the popular Christmas attraction standing for the holidays.

The tradition is now back for another year.

Key News Network spoke with homeowner Jeff Norton on Sunday, Dec. 4, about his dramatic Christmas display.

Norton said it takes about a month to set everything up with one person giving him a hand and the rest he does himself. It is apparent that Norton is a big fan of the movie “Christmas Vacation” starring Chevy Chase, that inspires such an elaborate display of characters, lights and vintage vehicles that are the exact year (1989) the movie was made. Norton says he works in the classic car industry.

Norton mentioned how the city was gong to levy weekly fines for as long as the display was up. People were donating money to help pay those fines in order to keep the display going. Norton said he made a promise to those that donated, that he would add to the display. “I certainly did that,” he said. The support from people was more than he ever dreamed.

Children were seen enjoying the snow machine at the display. There is also a toy donation drop off.

The “Griswold House” Christmas display is located at 15912 Golva Drive, La Mirada, CA 90638.
