ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA, July 16 (KNN) — A 3-year-old child was rushed to St. Jude Medical Center by Los Angeles County Fire paramedics after the child’s mother attempted to drive her daughter to the hospital herself following a near drowning incident at a pool Sunday afternoon.
The call came into Walnut Station deputies shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A woman pulled over on Yorkshire Way and Dublin Way and called 911 stating that her 3-year-old was unresponsive.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station Sergeant Magdaleno, the acting watch commander, confirmed to the Key News Network video journalist over the phone, that the 3-year-old and mom were at a friend’s house somewhere in Hacienda Heights when the toddler fell into the pool. Shortly thereafter, the attendees of the event found the child unresponsive in the pool and pulled the child out. The mom then loaded the child into the backseat of her vehicle and began rushing the child to a hospital before pulling over off Harbor Boulevard onto the Dublin/Yorkshire corner in Rowland Heights.
Sergeant Magdaleno could not confirm the sex of the drowning victim at the time, however, according to fire officials, they were transporting a female patient in full cardiac arrest to St. Jude Medical Center.
Magdaleno stated the child currently remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. It is unclear why the mother started driving the child to the hospital herself, though there is currently no active criminal investigation at this time.
LASD Industry Station is handling the investigation since the origin of this call stemmed out of Hacienda Heights.
KNN has reached out to the LASD Industry Station for an update on the child’s condition.
Correction: The hospital has been corrected to St. Jude Medical Center from St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
