Traffic Collision Leaves 1 Pedestrian Dead, 1 Hospitalized With Major Injuries

Bakersfield, Kern County, CA: Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle late Sunday night leaving one dead at the scene, and the other hospitalized.

Authorities were alerted just after 11 p.m., June 4, to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision in the area of Union and 8th Street in Bakersfield.

Bakersfield police officers arrived at the scene and located two adults, both suffering from major injuries.

One victim was pronounced deceased on scene by responding fire department personnel and the other was transported with major injuries to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal collision stayed at the scene and was cooperating with authorities.

Apparently, two people were crossing the street outside the crosswalk and were hit by the oncoming vehicle, according to witnesses at the scene.

Northbound traffic was shut down at the location of the incident and diverted around the area.
