
Los Angeles, CA: A 22-year-old male driving a scooter was struck by a vehicle, then dragged approximately 60 feet by another vehicle that fled the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD West Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
The multi-vehicle traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Western Avenue and Olympic Boulevard on Saturday, Mar. 5, 2022 around 2:30 a.m., LAPD stated in a news release.
A blue Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on Western Avenue in the number one lane and collided with a male traveling eastbound on an E-Scooter. The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the scooter and collide with the roadway, according to LAPD.
An unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Western Avenue collided with the driver of the scooter and dragged him approximately 60 feet south of the intersection where he came to rest in front of a bus stop. The unknown vehicle continued southbound on Western Avenue, failing to stop, identify themselves or render aid, according to LAPD.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. At this time, the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan was identified as a 39-year-old male from Los Angeles who remained at the scene after the collision, stated LAPD. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the first collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
