La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County, CA: A vehicle landed onto a movie theatre parking lot after leaving a freeway roadway, killing the driver in the city of La Cañada Flintridge on Friday, May 20, 2022.

According to Officer Jonathan Boyd, Public Information Officer with the California Highway Patrol Altadena Station interviewed by media at the scene, CHP received a call around 12:30 p.m. of a vehicle that left the roadway and landed onto the parking lot of the United Artists Movie Theatre.

CHP units arrived on the scene at approximately 12:42 p.m. and located a vehicle in the lot that had left the roadway of the Eastbound 210 Freeway to the Southbound 2 transition. That vehicle left the roadway for unknown reason which is still under investigation, according to Boyd. The vehicle landed onto the parking lot, and collided with another vehicle parked in the lot. That vehicle had one occupant who suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle that landed onto the lot had burst into flames at one point prompting response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The male driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased by fire personnel at approximately 12:43 p.m., said Boyd.

Details surrounding the circumstances of this incident are still being investigated by CHP alongside Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department La Crescenta Station.
