Vehicle Pursuit Ends with Fiery Crash into Tree, Suspect Injured

Bakersfield, Kern County, CA: An SUV involved in a police pursuit ended the chase when it crashed into a tree and caught fire, injuring the suspect early Saturday morning, Oct. 8, 2022.

Bakersfield Police Department officers attempted to catch up to a GMC Yukon running multiple red lights when the vehicle failed to yield, leading officers on a high-speed chase throughout east Bakersfield around 12:40 a.m.

The suspect lost control of the SUV and crashed into a tree causing the vehicle to catch fire on Mount Vernon and Church Avenue. Bakersfield Police officers extricated the suspect from the vehicle. No other occupants were inside.

The suspect was taken into custody and treated by medical personnel at the scene, then transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.
