Westlake House Fire Threatens Nearby Buildings

Westlake, Los Angeles, CA: Firefighters fought to contain a major emergency structure fire that threatened a nearby occupied apartment building and another building of a possible daycare center.

The abandoned house burned at approximately 10:01 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, on the 900 block of South Park View Street in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Upon arrival, Los Angeles Fire Department personnel located a two-story abandoned Craftsman-style home well involved in flames threatening two adjacent buildings. According to LAFD, the building to the north is an occupied two-story apartment building that sustained superficial damage. The other two-story building to the south is described as a possible daycare center.

LAFD reported it took 46 minutes for 140 firefighters in largely defensive operations to hold the fire to the vacant home. Firefighters were on the scene through the early morning hours continuing to overhaul the fire assuring all hot spots and smoldering debris were extinguished.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under active investigation.
