POMONA, Calif., Oct. 5 (KNN) — The Pomona Police Department was in pursuit of a vehicle Friday evening when it crashed off the freeway traveling the wrong way, leaving two ejected suspects dead.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene of a crash to assist Pomona PD with a traffic collision investigation of a vehicle involved in an active pursuit with PPD officers, according to Officer Joseph Davila, Public Information Officer for the CHP Baldwin Park Area.
Speaking on camera at the scene to KNN, Davila said the pursuit began on the 71 Freeway in the Pomona area and traversed several freeways, including city streets.
At one point, the vehicle traveled the wrong way on the westbound 10 Freeway Kellogg Drive off-ramp in an easterly direction, lost control, and hit a dirt berm, according to Davila. The vehicle then rolled onto the northbound 71 to the westbound 10 Freeway transition road.
Davila said two people were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Two others fled on foot and were taken into custody by the Pomona PD.
CHP had multiple transition roads on the 71 Freeway and 57 Freeway closed to the westbound 10 Freeway in Pomona. A Sig Alert was issued for an unknown amount of time.
It is currently unknown what prompted the pursuit.
