VICTORVILLE, Calif., Nov. 18 (KNN) – A pursuit of a suspect vehicle traveling the wrong way on an interstate highway Monday evening ended when a California Highway Patrol unit intentionally rammed the car, resulting in injury to the officer and an innocent person.
CHP officers with the Barstow Area office were in pursuit of a white Toyota sedan that was wanted in connection with an alleged theft and felony warrants.
The fleeing vehicle led the CHP southbound on the I-15 at speeds of over 100 mph. The car exited on Mojave Drive in Victorville, then re-entered the highway and began driving southbound in northbound lanes.
A CHP officer traveling northbound on the I-15 saw the suspect and intentionally rammed the suspect vehicle, which was traveling at approximately 70 mph on the right shoulder, according to information at the scene.
An innocent woman who was sitting in her van near the collision was struck as well, resulting in injuries requiring air ambulance transport to a nearby trauma center. The crash occurred just north of the Palmdale Road overpass on I-15 North.
All northbound lanes were closed at Nisqualli Road so an airship could land on the highway. The female victim was airlifted in an unknown condition, and the CHP officer suffered minor injuries.
CHP officers took both occupants of the suspect vehicle into custody at the scene.
