WEST COVINA, Calif., Oct. 1 (KNN) — Two people were killed and one injured in a head-on traffic collision involving a wrong-way driver in West Covina Monday evening.
West Covina police officers and the fire department received multiple 911 calls around 7:47 p.m. regarding a wrong-way traffic collision at South Azusa Avenue and East Greenville Drive.
Arriving firefighters and police personnel rendered aid to the injured parties in both vehicles. The driver of one vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, according to the West Covina PD in a press release of the incident.
The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A neighbor who declined to speak on camera said the SUV was traveling the wrong way and caused the head-on crash.
West Covina PD had both north and southbound Azusa Avenue closed as they investigated the fatal collision.
