1 Airlifted to Hospital After Vehicle Plunges Down Steep Canyon Cliffside

Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County, CA: Firefighters and Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle that left the roadway and plunged approximately 200 feet down a steep, canyon cliffside crashing with two occupants inside.

According to David Young, Firefighter Specialist with the Los Angeles County Fire Department interviewed at the location by Key News Network, the call of a single vehicle over the side was received on Wednesday, July 6, at approximately 11:06 p.m.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sand Canyon toward Placerita Canyon in the city of Santa Clarita when the vehicle went over the side. Many fire department units responded along with Urban Search and Rescue and Copter 19 which transported one non-ambulatory patient to a hospital. The other patient was rescued using a lowering system and sustained minor injuries to his right arm.

Young said the vehicle appeared to be a small passenger sedan but was unable to identify the make or model at the time of the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
