1 Killed in Crash Down Embankment; Trapped Driver Extricated, Airlifted from Scene

Simi Valley, Ventura County, CA: A crash down an embankment left one dead and the driver trapped in need of rescue Sunday evening.

California Highway Patrol Moorpark officers and Ventura County Fire Crews responded to reports of a solo vehicle crash on Santa Susana Pass Road just east of Box Canyon Road around 6:30 p.m., Dec. 25, in the city of Simi Valley.

When first responders arrived on scene, they located a vehicle approximately 300 feet down an embankment with parties trapped. The driver of the vehicle was pinned inside.

Rescue personnel extricated the driver who was airlifted out by Los Angeles Fire Department Air Ops.

The passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Santa Susana Pass Road remained closed for an unknown duration of time for the recovery and investigation.
