1 Killed in Semi vs. Sedan Lancaster Traffic Collision

Lancaster, Kern County, CA: A traffic collision between a semi and small sedan occurred on Sierra Highway at Avenue N in the city of Lancaster leaving one person trapped and fatally injured.

A semi was traveling north on Sierra Highway on Thursday, Sept. 1, when it collided with a Ford Focus at approximately 2:22 p.m.

The semi came to rest on top of the overturned Focus trapping a person inside. Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the location and worked tirelessly to free the trapped occupant.

All parties involved in the collision were transported to local area hospitals with at least one in critical condition. Lt. Zamora with the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station confirmed that one person who was transported to the hospital had succumbed to their injuries.

It was later discovered that the two occupants traveling in the Ford Focus were related, reportedly cousins, and that the decedent was a female passenger who has not been currently identified by authorities.

Sierra Highway was shut down in both directions as a result of the traffic collision causing back up for miles.

No further information is available at this time. The incident is still under investigation by Palmdale deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
