Firefighters Battle ‘Highland Fire’ in Aguanga

AGUANGA, CA, Oct. 31 (KNN) — A brush fire in Aguanga, located within the Inland Empire in Riverside County, has consumed acres of vegetation and prompted evacuations since first reported.

The fire was initially reported at 12:37 p.m. Monday in the area of Highlands Road and Aguanga Ranchos Road with 30 acres burning at a moderate rate of speed with 0% contained.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department updated the status of the fire at 5:45 a.m., Oct. 31, to 2,250 acres with 0% containment. All evacuation orders and warnings remain in place.

Tuesday evening, CAL FIRE announced the fire was at 2, 487 acres with 10 % containment. They also reported one firefighter injured, and three structures destroyed with six damaged. The number of structures threatened stands at 2,356.

Extremely steep and rugged terrain remains a challenge, CAL FIRE reported, along with “current and expected weather of steady winds with low relative humidity may increase the risk of erratic fire behavior.”
